Modern Mitzvahs

Sydney’s Micro Mitzvah

Sydney’s Bat Mitzvah was to take place July 2020 in Israel, followed by a large celebration in August back home in San Diego. Due to Covid-19 and the circumstances that followed, the family’s plans quickly evolved, and the event was converted to a backyard Zoom Mitzvah service followed by a Micro Mitzvah party which included family only and six of Sydney’s closest friends. It turned out to be an excellent way to pivot under the circumstances.

This modern Zoom service allowed for family and friends from around the world to watch Sydney become a Bat Mitzvah as the entire service was streamed live. The service was led by the lovely Rabbi Yael Ridberg.

The decor was both simple and beautiful. With the help of Allen’s Flowers, we were able to design a gorgeous backdrop made up of gold and white silk flowers which we hung from a branch with clusters of fresh, soft pink and white flowers that adorned each side. We used the family’s existing outdoor lounge seating and added some fun textured accent pillows in coordinating colors. Blush linens and a few additional floral centerpieces made for the perfect finishing touches.

Food was catered from Aladdin Café, and an amazing cake from Lyndsay’s Cakery took center stage on the custom dessert table, which was filled with Sydney’s favorite sweets. For the finale, the super cute “Sweet Treats” vintage ice cream truck rolled up in front of the house for all to enjoy.

It was a beautiful celebration!
We know that Sydney along with her family and friends will have these memories for a lifetime.
